Naturally Occuring Radioactive Materials (NORM)

NORM is the acronym for "Naturally Occuring Radioactive Material".

Since the "discovery" of NORM in oil-field scale in North Sea drilling and production operations in 1981, NORM in the Oil and Gas industry has drawn attention in many countries including Australia, Canada, Egypt, Libya, Norway, U.K., and the U.S.A.

There is awareness in western Canada that NORM contaminated sites and equipment may pose a serious health hazard to oil and gas industry workers. In addition there are political, legal and financial concerns, not to mention implications that relate to the Transport of Dangerous Goods (TDG) Act and Canadian Nuclear Safety Comission (CNSC) regulations.
